Keeper Cost

Well, well, well.  The rankings are finally out, and, I must say, Yahoo has actually done a pretty decent job this year in my not-so-humble opinion.  Regardless of what I think, we finally have a cost associated with keeping each player.  I will list the round of the pick you will sacrifice for a given player.  If you are fortunate enough, as am I, to have two players in the first round, you will be giving up a 1st and 2nd round pick, if that has somehow been missed on you before.  Without further adieu...

Round 1:
1. Chris Johnson
2. Adrian Peterson
3. Maurice Jones-Drew
4. Ray Rice
5. Michael Turner
6. Frank Gore
7. Andre Johnson
8. Rashard Mendenhall
10. DeAngelo Williams

*Note: there are only 9 players listed for Round 1 because Ryan Matthews is ranked ninth.

Round 2:
11. Steven Jackson
12. Randy Moss
13. Shonn Greene
14. Reggie Wayne
15. Aaron Rodgers
16. Calvin Johnson
17. Drew Brees
18. Larry Fitzgerald
19. Roddy White
20. Peyton Manning

Round 3:
21. Jamaal Charles  (Looking like a pretty decent value as a 3rd round pick...just sayin')
22. Ryan Grant
23. Miles Austin
24. Sidney Rice
25. Pierre Thomas
26. Brandon Marshall
27. Beanie Wells
28. DeSean Jackson
30. Greg Jennings

*Note: there are only 9 players listed for Round 3 because Jahvid Best is ranked 29th.

Round 4:
31. Cedric Benson
32. Tony Romo
33. Marques Colston
34. Matt Schaub
35. LeSean McCoy
36. Steve Smith (Car)
37. Knowshon Moreno
38. Dallas Clark
39. Jonathan Stewart
40. Antonio Gates

Round 5:
41. Philip Rivers
42. Anquan Boldin
43. Steve Smith (NYG)
44. Joseph Addai
45. Tom Brady
46. Vernon Davis
47. Felix Jones
48. Ronnie Brown
49. Chad Ochocinco
50. Jermichael Finley

If you are seriously considering keeping someone beyond the 50th ranked player, you can look that shit up yourself.  And while you are doing that, you might want to reconsider.  Although, here's one John may actually consider...Matt Forte (63).

  1. Clicking on the Player List felt a little bit like watching the selection show for March Madness.

As far as my keepers go, I was pretty pleased to see Benson slip to 31. As someone with the second pick, I dreamed of being able to give up two even-round picks. Things are definitely subject to change, but being able to lose a 4th rounder for Benson will likely be tough to pass up.

Beyond that, Larry Fitzgerald and Peyton Manning coming in at 18 and 20 kind of sucks for Ben, especially because he'll be giving up the 14th pick to keep either of them.

  2. Maybe I missed it in another email or post, but since you mentioned it, can I get a rundown of the draft order?

  4. Take note of what Jason's doing there fellas. That's the way it's done.

  5. If one can declare a winner from the announcement of the rankings, it's Jason. Not only does he get to keep Benson and Brees, but he gets the first pick of the draft and then still keeps his third round selection, which will be the second in the round. He only loses a 2nd-to-last pick in the 2nd and 4th. Congrats, my friend.

  6. Stop it, I'm blushing. In fairness, whenever you end up with a Cincinnati Bengal, it probably wasn't that great of a deal, so Benson is still a bit of a caveat emptor.
