Scott has raised an interesting point and offered to initiate a change to our keeper format, thus giving many of us little guys with weak keepers a glimmer of hope. For those of you not caught up in the hype just yet, here is what you have missed. Scott has graciously offered to change our keeper format to make it so that your keeper costs you the pick in the round he is projected rather than the next round. I of course, am very much for this change. Taylor has expressed his support as well. Now we need some feedback from others. Let us know what you think of this proposed change. I am assuming that by keeping two players in the same projected round, you would give up your next round pick as well. In some cases, like Scott with Rice and Peterson, this is great value. He is getting Rice at essentially the 20th pick. However, it also makes managers really look at where they pick in each round and determine the value of possible keepers.
The other issue that I didn't raise last night but should be discussed. Last year we based our keepers projected value on the Yahoo player listing. That player listing is not available until I create the league and if I'm not mistaking, once the league was created last year those player rankings/values never changed. Would we be better served to find a player ranking system that is updated regularly and that all can view prior to the creation of our Yahoo league. More to chew on.

It is great value to get Rice at #20 rather than #21.
ReplyDeleteI do think we should take a vote on a new rankings system to use. I felt like Yahoo's Big Board ends up being slightly askew by the time we have our draft. I'm open for suggestions, but would like to throw FantasyFootballToday into the mix. Remember, we need to use a rankings system based on performance, not PPR.
Losing keepers in the round they are projected really makes a manager think a lot harder about the value of that player relative to the pick they will lose. It also greatly enhances the argument to try and lose picks later in the round, i.e., one could keep deangelo williams and lose a top pick in the second round, or keep Jamaal Charles and lose a bottom pick in the third round.
Kickers put the "foot" in football.
ReplyDeleteVery useful comment, Admiral. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWith regards to the keeper situation, I think a change would be good for the game and might finally promote more offseason transactions. It would also make draft order more of a consideration as Tyler and Taylor mentioned.
With regards to the player rankings, I really doubt it matters much in the end. The problem with FFToday is that the players are ranked by position but not in a list from 1-200 for example. Since we haven't yet seen the rankings from Yahoo, I actually suggest we just use that to remove any bias. Can we get the league up and going soon?
Scott makes a good point on the change of rankings used. How long should we keep those rankings a mystery. If people are ready to get the league up and going in the next week, I would be happy to do so.
ReplyDeleteI support the proposed change to losing your keepers for the rounds in which they are projected. I think Yahoo would be the safest ranking system, but we can check out some other ones to see if there are any that are really credible.
ReplyDeleteBen made a strong case for kickers (twice), but I would rather see those rat bastards stick to soccer. Fantasy is imperfect, let the kickers and lineman form their own fantasy leagues.
