Gentlemen,
Taylor and I have agreed to a trade. I will trade him Aaron Rodgers for Calvin Johnson. This seems more than fair, as I clearly need a solid #1 wide receiver for my team and Taylor wants to end any QB inconsistencies. In addition to the players, given the consideration of the keeper league, Taylor will also gain a pick in an earlier round and I will forfeit an early round pick as CJ is ranked more highly than Rodgers. I had intended all along to keep A-rod instead of Chris Johnson as some of you may have thought for exactly the reason that I would maintain an early round pick.
Sincerely,
DD

We haven't really hammered down any definite rules on off-season trades. I think its a great idea and will keep things very interesting in the preseason. One question..
ReplyDelete1) Is it fair for owners to make a trade in which one owner decides not to keep the player they acquired? The reason I raise the question is, does that somehow put Jim and Bebo at a further disadvantage. Should they now be able to vote on trades? Its not final but appears they may be picking from our leftovers. If Taylor decides not to keep Aaron Rodgers..which he will likely decide...then Calvin Johnson, who he likely would have given up is no longer available. Granted, Chris Johnson would be... I am just throwing out questions.

One point...We will have to, again, have a majority of the league approve the trade in order for it to go through...granted that we decide that trading is okay. Shit is getting harry.
Shit IS getting hairy. My gut reaction is that offseason trades must involve players who are to be kept by both teams (we could talk about a pre-draft injury exception), but Taylor does gain an advantage in that Chris Johnson will be available and Taylor has a high pick, so it's quite a query.
ReplyDeleteI discussed this with Tyler and I brought up two points: What if I would have traded Scott Calvin Johnson for two draft picks and Chris Johnson will probably be drafted by either Bebo or Jim anyway. Regardless, Scott wasn't going to keep Chris Johnson and he is available to either expansion team, or you first, Jason. If he happens to fall to me with the second pick of the first round, by all means, I will take him. But I think we should encourage trades, trusting that no one would actually try to make another team better just to spite other teams. I don't operate that way. I know Scott doesn't operate that way. In fact, I know none of you operate that way, save John's Randy Moss move two years ago. But that is behind us. Let's not let it haunt our league forever.
ReplyDeleteI would counsel against trades used exclusively for deception regarding which players we can anticipate are going to be kept, but I think Taylor is right, we should not try to police trades, and simply approve or disapprove them based on the value each side is receiving. I would imagine we may have to vote on how this is handled, but if not, then I would like to go ahead and cast my vote approving this trade
