No Favre

Just read that the Minneapolis Star-Tribune is reporting that Favre has begun telling teammates and team officials he will not return next year. Jay Glazer also reporting the same.

This hurts Sidney Rice, and I think Peterson a little. Any thoughts?

Also, read my previous post.

  1. NFL.com is reporting the same.

First of all: fuck. I actually liked seeing the old man out there, and as a Vikings fan this stings a little. I think this hurts Rice more than Peterson, obviously. Although I think Adrian will probably have fewer TD's than he would have had with Favre, I think his yards will improve substantially.
I am just glad this is over and they have the rest of the preseason to come up with a new offensive strategy. Obviously, I think you have to lean on the run more with Jackson under center.

  2. I'm ready to go ahead and draw for scheduling purposes. Is there some reason why we would need to wait? Our blog is becoming stale and stagnant. (And please don't read that last sentence as a commentary on HAL's posts. In fact, I'm glad we have some new material up.) I just think it would do everyone a lot of good to have something to be angry about. Plus, it would serve as tasty fodder for debate and gloating. My understanding is that the Commish is in Chi-town sans his better half for another night. I say we have him draw names out of a hat and tell us what the schedule is going to be. If you don't trust him, we can wait until his wifey arrives, and she can play witness. Thoughts?

  3. How could that go wrong? I think this may even help Peterson because he'll be more consistent. No more 10 carry games for him. But aren't we all overlooking the obvious? This is way too early for Favre to really retire. He didn't decide to play until like Week 3 of the preseason last year. Let's give the old man time to change his mind...again.

  4. Jason's right about Favre not retiring yet perhaps. I honestly just hope he does now. I am tired of this shit.
I think Peterson will be more consistent as well. Unfortunately, this probably means more 8 man fronts, but great backs find a way. I still think he will be the highest scoring back for fantasy purposes at the end of the season. He will need to stay healthy though. I think so little of Toby Gerhart that I don't even think he's worth taking as a handcuff. I see Peterson as the every down back this season.

  5. I agree with the Admiral. However, this being the Upstanding Pirate Gentlemen, I would like to propose that we throw down our gauntlets and make the first week "Rivalry Week". I will be the first to challenge Taylor Payne to a rematch of last year's championship game. Let's get any grievances out of the way the first week.
